Empowering Women to Rise Out of Poverty: othercare & Naturalena Foundation’s Commitment

At othercare, we believe that no mother should have to struggle to provide a clean diaper for her baby. That’s why we are committed to supporting programs that empower women and families in need.  Our Buy One, Give One purchases and direct donations help fund initiatives like the one we’re proud to highlight today—our donation of 4,000 Happy Little Camper diapers to the Women & Children’s Center of the Sierra (WACCS). Since 2008, WACCS has been a pillar of support for women working to escape poverty and build a better future for themselves and their children. They provide a comprehensive range of free services, including:

  • Educational and life skills classes
  • A diaper bank distributing between 9,000 – 11,000 diapers monthly
  • Essential supplies like food, hygiene, and cleaning products
  • Job search assistance and goal-setting support
  • Domestic violence resources and referrals
  • An open computer lab and much more

Addressing Diaper Need to Support Women & Children

The reality for many under-resourced women is that they are forced to live day-to-day, crisis-to-crisis. Something as basic as diapers can be a major obstacle, preventing mothers from accessing daycare or employment.

A Yale University study found that a lack of diapers is an even stronger predictor of a mother’s mental health struggles than food insecurity. Babies who are left in soiled diapers for prolonged periods are at risk of developing severe diaper rashes, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and attachment disorders due to unmet needs.

Many mothers without access to diapers resort to cleaning and reusing dirty ones, a heartbreaking and dangerous practice. This is why diaper banks like WACCS’ are critical in bridging the gap for struggling families.

How othercare & Naturalena Foundation Are Making a Difference

Donations like these have been instrumental in allowing the Naturalena Foundation to expand its charitable reach. To better support our giving endeavors, we established two DBAs—othercare and the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank—ensuring that our impact continues to grow and reach more families in need.

Through the Naturalena Foundation, othercare and the Houston Lone Star Diaper Bank are dedicated to ensuring that no mother has to choose between food and diapers. Every purchase you make through othercare’s Buy One, Give One program contributes directly to providing essential supplies to families in need. Your support allows us to continue making these vital donations, reinforcing our commitment to empowering women and improving the health and well-being of their children.
